How Our Story Begin
Honoring Our Roots: The Spark for Change
Our story began back in 2017 in the heart of Georgetown, Penang, originally known as the Oaktree Resource Centre. For years, these walls provided a safe, supportive haven for families navigating the journey of raising children who required different kinds of support. When our current leadership took the helm, we were deeply moved by the foundation of love that had already been built here. But as we spent time with these incredible kids—listening to their parents' everyday struggles and beautiful hopes—we felt a strong calling to evolve. We realized that while the center had always offered essential resources, society's focus was still too fixed on what these children "needed" or lacked. We knew it was time to change that narrative entirely and actively celebrate their potential.
A New Chapter: Becoming Oaktree Care Centre
That profound realization became the catalyst for our rebrand and the birth of Oaktree Care Centre. Stepping into this new era, we took our nearly decade-long legacy and completely reimagined it, intentionally shifting our focus from "special needs" to "special abilities." Today, nine years after those original doors opened, we are guided by our P.R.I.D.E. mission. We have transformed from a traditional resource center into a vibrant village of advocates, dedicated to ensuring that every child who joins our Oaktree family feels empowered to realize their unique purpose, claim their equal rights, and build the determination to shine in their own extraordinary way.
